If somebody mentions "Skin of the car",
what would you think of? Yeah, sounded a bit odd when I first heard it
as well, but wait till you understand the whole concept behind it.
The BMW Group Design team (yeah, those people who sit there and think
only) came out with this question: What if we could replace the skin of
the car with something else? Well, the structure of the car is very much
supported by the chassis, and that's enough in protecting the passengers
from accident. What if the metal casing of the car is replaced with
something really light and flexible? The car will then be lighter, more
fuel economic, faster to assemble and... maybe sexier?
With that idea in mind, they created a concept car called the GINA Light
Visionary Model. The metal cover is replaced with a seamless,
plastic-coated lycra fabric material. It is stretched over the metal
frame with moving parts ¡ª allowing for the car to have shape-shifting
properties. The shape of the body can be changed without tearing or
loosening the fabric, and the steering wheel, gauges and headrest all
move into place after you sit down in the car.
OK, enough of writing. Check out this babe in the video:
Caught this in one of the supermarkets in Brunei the other day. Didn't thought that you need to translate that into Malay. Or even if you REALLY do, didn't thought that that's the right translation. Just found it a bit funny... hhmmm...
Wooo hooo!!! Been wanting to get a portable speaker for my klutziPod for a long time. Finally....!! Just got my hands on the JBL OnStage Micro Portable Music Dock for iPod yesterday. It's a gift oohh... hehehe...
Unboxing of the Dock
Size
The dock is pretty small. As you can see, its width is smaller than a RM50 note, so pretty good to be carried around.
Features
The dock comes with a infrared remote control. Basically it provides you all the options to control the iPod. Most of the controls are OK, except the up-down scroll buttons, pretty slow. Unlike using the wheel control, it takes ages to reach 1 end of the list to the other. The dock charges your iPod as well (of course...)
(The pic looks a bit like the mask of Dark Vader) At the back there's a power button and 4 ports. The Audio In port allows you to connect other music device to the dock using a 3.5mm jack. The USB port allows you to connect it to the computer and sync with your iPod. Quite disappointed 'cause the USB cable is not provided. The Audio Out port allows you to connect the dock to another JBL speaker. People says that you can't connect it to an amp or something, but I haven't tried that out. Lastly is of course the power port.
Others
The package includes a soft carrying cas, which could fit the dock, iPod, remote control and the power adapter. Like this. Quite handy for you to bring the whole thing around.
It also comes with 8 dock adapters, which allows it to basically fit all the iPods in the market, except iPod Shuffle. For that, you need to use the 3.5mm jack to connect it to the Audio In port.
Quality
To be honest, I'm quite satisfied with the sound quality. I've tried it out before in Machines, MidValley, but I wasn't quite satisfied that time. It didn't sound that good, maybe it's because of the noise in the mall, and that's a display unit. Now that I get my hands on this, it actually sounds quite good. Given the size of the speakers, you can't expect too much bass from it obviously, and you can't expect to use it in your living room. Using it my room is pretty good. Worth considering.
Price
Well, I've tried to look around in KL but I couldn't find any store selling it. The only store with it was the Machines in MidValley, but even that, they only have 1 display unit left. According to the guy, it's RM400++. In U.S, they are selling it at USD 99.
Overall, if this wasn't a gift, I will definitely not spend money on it. RM400++ for a speaker? Nah.... but now that I have it, it's actually quite satisfying. It's totally up to you
I've been to Brunei twice. There's a place that I must visit, and trust me, if you ever visit Brunei, you must check this place out.
WARNING: What you are about to see are seriously delicious, reading this post will seriously make you hungry. If you decide to continue reading, please always be reminded that, what you are seeing cost only RM 33 after splitting the bill.
One thing you must do, is to visit Escapade Sushi Restaurant. They serve serious good Japanese food, really...
Look at the size of the salmon sashimi!!! They are really fresh... melt immediately in your mouth.
It has been a while since I visited Taipei in March. Missed the food? Hhhmm... Not really. Been telling everybody this: didn't really find Taiwan food as fantastic as how they describe it in the TV shows. Yeah, it's true. So if you are planning to visit Taiwan for the food, set your expectation right.
Anyway, checked out Fong Lye Taiwanese Restaurant the other day in The Gardens. Looks not bad from outside, kind of crowded too. It was just me and WeiWei, so couldn't order too many stuff.
As usual, these kind of restaurants normally serve funky funky colorful drinks, so we ordered the papaya milk and orange yougart. Not too expensive though. RM7.30 each.
The set meals were not bad too. Ordered the Fresh Tomato Fried Egg with Fish (name also very long). As you can see, there're quite a lot of stuff, including dessert too (the yellow thingy in the center is some creamy butter stuff 奶油卷).
It's actually not bad to go with rice, the fish was fresh. Just a bit too sweet after a while.
They serve the meal with a common rice with pork in Taiwan - Lu Rou Rice 鲁肉饭. You can find this kind of rice everywhere in Taiwan, like nasi lemak in Malaysia. The taste is not as strong as those you find in Taiwan. Maybe they have adjusted it a bit for Malaysian market.
WeiWei ordered a Spare Ribs Set.
It's something like KFC Hot & Spicy, replace the chicken with pork ribs deduct the spicy. Funny to go with rice actually.
Overall the food was OK. A bit pricey though. RM 19.80 per set meal, which comes to RM62.35 for 2 person including drinks.
Recommendation: Like in Taiwan, nothing really fantastic, but worth checking it out if you are there.
Even my dog couldn't tahan the news, until it teared it apart, like really APART. Though losing 50% of the header, I could still recognize that 3 people were arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA). This was quoted from one of the press:
Raja Petra is alleged to have posted articles deemed seditious and that also belittle Islam
SinChew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng is believed to have been arrested over her report on former Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Datuk Admad Ismail's racist remarks whie campaigning for the Permatang Pauh by-election last month
Kok is believed to have been picked up in connection with a residents petition in Puchong over a mosque
My first thought was WTF! OK, you may disagree with me. Even though I
disagree, but I could understand why Raja Petra was arrested (given what have happened previously). But hell,
Teresa Kok and Tan Hoon Cheng??? Who was causing all the chaos? Ahmad who made a racist remark or Tan who reported the remark? Holy crap.
After reading the newspaper, Weiwei and I immediately thought that we wanna express our anger in our blogs, and we thought that's all we could do. Until afternoon when I got this SMS from a friend, asking me if I wanna join the candlelight vigil in Bukit Aman Police station in the night. The answer was definitely a YES without any second thought.
This is the first thing we saw when we got there. Bunch of FRU surrounding the crowds.
There was a lot of people, and reporters too. Shortly after we arrived, one of the policemen told us that we shouldn't gather around as there wasn't any permit, but they allowed us to march around. And so we marched.
Marching for the freedom of Malaysia.
We marched for 15 minutes, and was forced to disperse by the FRU with their shields and sticks. FRU with shields and sticks VS. civilians with candles... yeah, we were forced to disperse, and that's when I felt that people in Malaysia is so powerless against what's happening around them. People are forced to swallow what was given, or they choose to?
This is the first time I participated in such a vigil. Sad to say, there was only around 200 people, out of all the people in KL. Where the hell were all the people? Drinking tea tarik at mamak, watching Astro at home or Facebooking? Damn, don't they realized this is for the sake of their own country?
ISA = Individual Safety Assistance?
Tan was released the next day after the arrestment. Ironically, the Home Minister of Malaysia explained that the reporter was arrested because her security was under threat and not because what she did was a threat to
national security. OMG, Malaysian Government is really good in telling joke. Come on, I have a few questions, maybe some of you can help me with this:
How many people knows how Tan Hoon Cheng looks like before she was arrested?
Now that everybody knows that how Tan looks like, if her life was seriously under threat, is it more dangerous for her to be on the street now compared to previously?
18 hours of protection. Woohh... And you don't need protection after that. Are you kidding me?
Abolish ISA?
OK, in my opinion, I think ISA shouldn't be abolished, I think it does serve its purpose, if it is used in the right way. Yes, it's arguable, I know. In this real world, it is possible that there could be threats without obvious evidents, e.g. terrorism, where you can't wait, collect evidents and judge. Same as what happened in the past when communists was a threat.
But like I said, if it is used in the right way. However that doesn't seem to be so currently. When asked the PM, PM said "I don't know about this, ask Home Minister". When asked the Home Minister, Minister said "I don't know about this, ask the police". What's the procedure anyway??
If a more transparent procedure exist for ISA, it would serve its purpose.
Sent my car for detailing a few weeks ago. Yes, detailing. What is detailing? It's something more canggih than polish+wax. Normally polish+wax is only treats the external parts of your car. Detailing includes the inner parts. Yeah, so it's more "detailed".
Went to Pro-Details in Kota Damansara. The whole package is RM230. Yeah, a bit expensive... Well, have not treated my car for a year, so it's ok lah. And fortunately my car is a white car, so it's cheaper.
Quite satisfied with the outcome. The surface of car has become very smooth, the tar spots are gone, what was white has become whiter, and what was black has become blacker, the engine was cleaned as well.
Check out the video. The surface is so smooth that even the water won't stay on the surface.
Yo yo yo, just discovered another 'must-try' restaurant. This time, it's an elephant! (actually WeiWei brought me there )
If you have been to those flat areas in Section 17 (PJ), you would know how old that area is. More than 20 years old? Anyway, those flats are OLD. Nobody would expect to find such a cool place there (see map here).
When I first got there, I was like 'woohh...', and I'm SERIOUS. The ambience of the restaurant is like Delicious in Bangsar Village. OK, not that nice, but not bad as well.
Well, it's a Thai restaurant. Too bad there were only 2 of us there, couldn't order a lot. Would definitely recommend to go with more people, then can order and try more food. We ordered a green curry chicken (RM 15) and a Thai vege tempura (RM 10). Food is nice, average price.
There's a comfi corner in the restaurant, so you can hang out with your friends even if you are not eating. Didn't see any wine on the menu though.
Today, Malaysia celebrates 51 years of independence.
2 days ago, Avril Lavigne "successfully" had her concert in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Why "successfully"? Thanks to the ministry. Check out the news at the local press:
If Malaysian officials' logic holds, Avril Lavigne is sexier than Gwen Stefani and the Pussycat Dolls and just as potentially morally corrupting as Beyoncé.
Malaysia on Tuesday canceled a concert by Canadian rock singer Avril
Lavigne, saying it may taint the Muslim-majority country's independence
day celebrations after the Islamic opposition slammed her show as being
"too sexy."
Of course it is always easy to say things like "We have our principals in our countries", "We shouldn't care about what other people talk/think about us, 'cause we can't control how they think", or "Their reports are not true/ bias". But you just can't ignore the fact that there are impacts on how people perceive Malaysia, even from these small matters.
I'm just imagining 2 foreigners who were visiting Bangkok, saying "You know what? Arvil is having her concert in KL next week, why not we go for the concert, and check out KL at the same time". Then they went online, googled "Avril Lavigne Malaysia Concert", they saw these news, and they said "I didn't know Malaysians are like that, let's check out Singapore then".
Now that I've finally setup devilsheep.com, the question "What to do with devilsheep.com?" keeps on popping up.
OK, let's say I want to use it merely for blogging (at least for now), but what should I blog about?
Grace told me that a Singaporean blogger has 20000 hits per day, just by writing what she does everyday!
If, I'm gonna write about what I do everyday... hhmmm...
maybe I can write about tech stuff... that will be boring too...
or... how about cars?
and people keep on asking me the same question (especially Grace)
Well, you know what? I seriously don't have a plan. Why should I have a plan??? I've said before and I'm gonna say again. I'm done with planning in life and work, can't I just do something without planning? It's devilsheep.com, and it's mine~! HUH~!!
p/s: if you have any idea, please tell me also lah...
